Killing a few hours in Kirchheim...

After overdosing on meat at the churrascaria yesterday, B was not feeling too well. While she slept in, I took the kids to get a quick ice cream on the way to one of the parks in our neighborhood. Nothing about this trip seemed particularly noteworthy at the time, but upon reviewing the pictures I took, I found a few things I thought were mildly interesting.

Firstly, we bought the ice cream at a gas station about a 5 minute walk from here. As I've mentioned before in other posts, this place is open 24/7, a rarity in this part of Germany. It seems strange, but we also buy our morning bread there most days. For whatever reason, they have great baguettes and it's on my jogging route.

When I went with the kids today, my brain wasn't oxygen-deprived like it is normally when I go there after jogging. My eyes were also free of copious sweat. I think you can learn a lot about a country from its convenience stores. I noticed a couple of things that I found mildly amusing (both of them having to do with alcohol - draw your own conclusions).

In my opinion, the wine selection at this gas station is better than some grocery stores I can think of in Seattle.
What I really liked was the selection of hard liquor conveniently located near the register with other "impulse" items like breath mints and cough drops. Jägermeister and Tic-tacs? We got you covered.
Anyway, the kids loved the ice cream, which is really cheap here. All three of them were less than 2 Euros. I'm assuming the low price has something to do a socialist subsidy of some sort. Go Lenin!
We then spent an hour and half or so at a park behind Emily's school, 5 minutes or so from the ranch. The kids had a blast. For those of you not inclined to take my word for it (or who just like to see the kids), enjoy the photos below.
