Lunch in France...

Today we woke up extremely early as the kids noticed at the crack of dawn that the Easter Bunny had found them in Germany. Our move to Europe has apparently had no effect on “his” tendency to go overboard. When did the Easter bunny start delivering gifts?
After the kids came down from their first sugar high of the day, B and I headed to downtown Heidelberg to do a little research on boat trips on the Neckar river. I first made B head up to the castle (again) as today was perfectly sunny with no haze and I wanted to get better pictures than I took yesterday. We decided we would do a boat trip tomorrow as the only cruise that had space was too late in the afternoon for our taste.
On the way back to the apartment, we decided to give the kids some time off from our little excursions (all three of them wanted to stay home for a change). We left them with Sandra and scooted over to France for lunch in Strasbourg. We made it there in about an hour at an average speed of around 100 mph! We seem to have pleased the parking gods as we wedged the truckster (with the help of the unofficial parking attendants) less than 10 meters from the huge cathedral downtown (see picture below of rear end of said truckster in obvious proximity of said cathedral). The main cathedral in Strasbourg is enormous but incredibly detailed. It’s mind boggling to imagine the planning and work that went into it. It dominates the skyline for blocks as you approach it and dominates your attention up close as you try to take in all the detail on its exterior. The picture below shows the detail in the arch above the doors. The little shapes in the concentric arches are incredibly intricate carvings, each of which would be an impressive work of art by itself.
We then proceeded to walk around this gorgeous city, including a quick jaunt by the river, and ended up having lunch in tourist central. We had a couple of stake-like hunks of meat that were, of course, overcooked and even more overpriced. Later, I had a hotdog in the street that was much better.

All in all, Strasbourg consistently hovers around 10 on our Destination-meter. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, you should definitely check it out.

We got to hear the Spanish lady above give an earful to her friends who ate lunch without her. Muy gracioso!

By the way, when we got back the kids seemed to be suffering from a chocolate-induced hangover. Wouldn't it make more sense for the Easter Bunny to distribute carrots anyway?

What were you on during your latest entry? Even for you it was a bit fragmented, although if I were tripping I could get off on those reflections of the glasses:)

Thanks for your effort on the blog. It's a neat way to keep up with your adventure:)
