Waking with the fishes…

I’ve been waking up before just about everyone except my mother-in-law. While we were having breakfast today, I asked her if she’d take me to Niterói’s famous fish market one morning this week. Since she had some errands to run in the neighborhood thereof, I decided to tag along and stroll through the fish market while she took care of her business.IMG_5571 (1024x683)The market has stall after stall of all kinds of fish and crustaceans. The proximity of the vendors makes it easy to negotiate, even for an impatient Gringo like me.IMG_5581 (1024x683)IMG_5582 (1024x683)Niteroi’s fish market is even well known on the other side of the bay in Rio. The fish is about as fresh as it gets and, especially when paying in Euros, reasonably priced.IMG_5589 (1024x683)IMG_5583 (683x1024)Most years we’re here I buy shrimp. Super shrimp. I found myself secretly hoping the intent is to protect those doing the fishing, not those of us buying the fish.  IMG_5574 (683x1024) IMG_5577 (683x1024)
