10 things I love about Teresopólis (10-6)

(Found a couple of posts I created offline while in Terê and decided to publish them.)

B’s grandmother’s house is one of my favorite places on the planet. In no real order, I’ll explain why:

The house

The house is really big and only 1 story. It’s extremely well laid out so that different groups can congregate without feeling isolated. There were 20 of us there this trip and it couldn’t have been more comfortable.IMG_0440 (1024x683) (1024x683)

The showers

The showers in this house are the best I’ve ever used. The “box”, as they call it in Brazil, is deep and it feels like you’re standing beneath a water fall (or fire hose).IMG_1780 (683x1024)

The Stream

Unfortunately, the best spot to put the house on the lot had a small stream running through it. The solution? Allow the stream to pass under the house. Very cool and very rare (and clearly against building codes in Brazil these days). Below you can see the stream running down a hill and then going under the house.

The fireplace

The fire place is big enough to warm most of the house and has big, comfortable couches around it. We’ve spent many a late night there drinking Caiparinhas, Port and Scotch.IMG_1788 (1024x658)

The yard

The yard is absolutely huge and well maintained. Because the house is surrounded by walls and forest, it is one of the best places I’ve ever found to hurl a Frisbee (not much wind).IMG_0567 (1024x653)
