10 things I love about Teresopólis (5-1)

The pool

Although it’s in the mountains where it’s pretty cool most of the year, the house has a pool. Ironically, the sun in the mountains is really strong. The water is cold but the kids absolutely love it.IMG_0446 (1024x683)IMG_0645 (1024x683)

Dinner table

The dinner table seats 10 people comfortably, 20 or so if necessary! These days it’s rare to have a meal at home with so many folks.tere table_1754 (1024x683)See below me spying on folks having lunch. There were 15 folks at the table and we could have certainly squeezed in a few more. You also get insight into what introverts Brazilians are.

Coffee table

B’s grandfather had this table especially made to be at the perfect level to put your feet up while watching TV (it’s lower than most tables and designed to match the height of the couch!). Kind of funny and an inspired idea.IMG_1785 (1024x683)

The climate

Being high up in the mountains, the temperature is usually 5 degrees or more cooler than down in Rio. The weather also changes often and rains a fair amount; perfect weather for sleeping in.

The “Highlands”

The house is surrounded by tall hills that you can climb. Below you can see the staircase that leads to higher ground (where there’s an old tennis court) and can barely make out the pool way below. The folks that take care of the house (no one from the family actually lives there) live way up a hill. Looks like a tree house to my eye. See if you can spot it in the last picture in this post.
