Jesus’s armpit…

On Tuesday the weather improved a bit so I convinced the crew that we should go to Corcovado, the mountain upon which Rio’s famous statue of Christ was built. The wait for the train was 2 hours so we elected an option that got us to the base by minivan. The weather was far from perfect, but for most of our short visit we could see the most common Rio landmarks.IMG_0277 (683x1024)IMG_0267 (1024x683)IMG_0276 (1024x683)Since it was a holiday (September 7th is Brazilian independence day), there was a procession of boats passing Ipanema beach, turning the corner at Arpoador for Copacabana and finally to the bay. It was lead by a massive sailing ship.Copy of IMG_0263 (1024x683)Copy of Copy of IMG_0263I’ve been to Corcovado several times on clearer days so didn’t take many pictures. However, I really like the ones I (and the Mrs.) took, especially the one below (credit goes to B).IMG_0283 (1024x683)IMG_0264 (1024x657)By the way, there’s a carnival group (bloco) called “Suvaco do Cristo”, or Jesus’s armpit in English as they come from one of the neighborhoods in the shadow of Corcovado.IMG_0273 (1024x683)The following video looks like a picture until you notice the folks moving top left.
