The little differences…

During our stay in Ipanema, our friend Renato (or Renatcho as Sophia calls him) took me around downtown Rio to take pictures. We ended up at the end of the runway at the commuter airport in Rio, Santos Dumont (named for the man Brazilians believe to be first in flight). When I think about modern security measures in the States, the following video is simply unbelievable.

Anyway, Renato got off some great shots while I was filming that underscore just how close we were (my camera doesn’t have much zoom). You can see the man fishing in the last one. There’s a traffic signal that stops cars, including taxis, from driving through the end of the runway when planes are taking off or landing!
